Welcome home. Quilt 08/13/2019 (Tue) 02:35:16 No. 1 [Reply] [Last]
It has been almost 5 years now. It feels weird to me that so much time has passed, but here we are.

An independent home for /late/ has been kicked around for years now, but it is only today that it became a reality. We owe it to Nax for much of making it happen, and Deadly, for being Deadly and funding the server.

Enjoy, sleepy anons

We have a matrix instance available. You can sign up to our homeserver by going to https://riot.im/app/#/register selecting advanced and entering https://matrix.late.city. Alternatively just sign up for an account on https://riot.im/app/#/register like normal. Our community is at +home:late.city.
This link may also be useful: https://matrix.to/#/+home:late.city.

There are currently 6 channels federated between discord and matrix.

We hope to see you there!

As closing words, I'd like to say: fuck deadly.
I know back on 8chan /late/ and /comfy/ were once close boards, so I thought I'd just let anyone interested know that /comfy/ is back https://anon.cafe/comfy/

Minecraft is a comfy game, so we have servers!

- A near-vanilla server on version 1.12.2 @ late.city
a map for it exists @ https://mc.late.city

- A TerraFirmaCraft [ https://terrafirmacraft.com/ ] server on 1.7.10 @ forge.late.city

You have the right address, I'll see if I can fix whatever the problem is.
>>332
Make sure you're on 1.12.2
Why is the server destroyed? I just joined.
>>540
There's some downtime every now and then. It passes in maybe 30 minutes or so.

Glows, man.

Don't trust anyone but your sounds. Sounds tell you everything, so you have a constant understanding of the sound around you, hyperaware. Even though you don't relize it, all sound, even natural, sharp, soft, loud, quiet, all express a possible response i your brain. Your brain instinctually expexts the worst. So every noise around me must mean something is wrong. The rest of the sense are a lie. We knosw nothing, your balls have taste buds. Everything is mismatched and out of order. It's all chaos, we don't see it, but our brains do, and they're getting tired of the noises. It needs a break or else going to snap. IM SCHIZIOD POOOO0OOster

Confession Anonymous 11/03/2019 (Sun) 06:30:12 No. 224 [Reply] [Last]
Finally broke down at 4am and told my father about the depression, the suicidal thoughts, and all the other shit that I've kept to myself for the past year. He had no idea about any of it, most people didn't. Even those who knew about parts of it never knew the fill picture.
It felt really good, lads.
The /late/ hours are the best for sorrow and depression, but also for confession and empathy.

Post what is on your mind. Speak freely.

Same. I was just about to get my life in order and stop being a NEET, but this shit started and now there's no telling when it will be over.

I just hope there won't be another Great Depression after the economy gets fucked with all the money printing, I'm too poor to go through that shit, and I don't really have family to rely on.
>>705
I hate to say it because I just got out but the military is always hiring. If I reenlist they'll just send me to some shit tier base to live out the next four years but at least I wont have to worry about health care or a paycheck. But the good news is is that i just got an email from a place I applied to yesterday saying they want to do a phone interview with me soon, so I got that to look forward to.
I'm studying and working out to get into the military, where I live there's pretty much constant war so they actually deploy you.
I know I have it in me, I'm just scared of faltering, "taking a step back", you know?
>>714
It's Always good to have a plan b man, good luck with the interview.
>>703
If anything this is just getting annoying now.
I want to go outside to run but I can't.
I want to go fishing but can't.
I'm trying to make do with the lockdown but it ain't the same.
Hope you guys have enough food.
I wouldn't be surprised if I inherited borderline and depressive traits from my parents, although I will never go to a psychiatrist or therapist because I find it sickening for one to pay another person to mould their own mentality so as to fit in with a complex and unnatural society.
Out of all the self-help literature I have read, the main tip that helped was vivid future planning. It could be considered escapism, but it does make me feel more content and less directionless.

Or ended up in New Zealand. Yes, New Zealand was full of them until humans arrived. You can even take meaning from that and say that there is a niche for you if you still have the strength to search for it.

If not, then it doesn't matter too. We are all just passing time until we die. This applies to bacteria as well as our whole universe. Sure we have to tell ourself that his all very important, if not why go on? But I wouldn't call it rational. Accepting has to be easier for depressed people and therefore I would argue even depression has an upside.

Anime Anonymous 03/05/2020 (Thu) 19:44:01 No. 646 [Reply] [Last]
hey /late/, what are some of the earliest anime you've watched?

also, which series (current/past seasons) are meant to watch /late/ at night?
3 posts and 1 image omitted.
>>653

Inuyasha was up on a free-to-air channel from where i'm at.
i remember not finishing the series, either the channel stoping airing it or couldn't air the rest of the series after certain season.
anyway i did finish the whole series (minus the movies)

>>688

cool, that's like one of the more retro series in this thread haha!
plus i never heard of it, so thanks will be putting this on my watching list
First anime i saw was stuff from the 60s and 70s like: Speed Racer, The Ultraman and Candy Candy.

At present i'm watching Urusei Yatsura when falling asleep.
earliest i've watched would be pokemon (both english and arabic dubs, arabic OP = english OP)
digimon (both english and arabic dubs (arabic OP > english OP)
old Hunter x Hunter (arabic OP > everything, cried when she performed it live)
(338.62 KB 900x954 Suigintou.full.2493072.png)
Not counting Pokemon, DBZ, Ghibli movies etc... the earliest anime I watched was the first GITS movie, the first Eva movie, and Ergo Proxy. I had been browsing imageboards for years by then, but I always thought of anime as something pretentious, childish, and perverted because of the images that anons posted, so I only allowed myself to watch the more mainstreamy animes or the ones "mature" enough to be like Hollywood movies, but now I watch anime almost exclusively.

I really started watching anime when my bro introduced me to Attack on Titan and my sis introduced me to Fairy Tail, for Fairy Tail - I fell in love with the show's comedy, but then as I watched more shows I realized that it's the standard kind of comedy in anime, but for AoT - I hated Eren, but I thought it was pretty badass anime anyway and even now I still think it's a great anime despite how much more refined my tastes have become. I get that lots of anons consider it to be a "normalfag" anime for plebs, but if you can look past the normalfag reasons for liking it, there are deeper, real reasons for it being a genuine masterpiece. After that I started watching Kill la Kill, TTGL, Boku Dake Inai Machi, Gintama, and that's how I became a weeb.

>which series (current/past seasons) are meant to watch /late/ at night?
Fate Zero or anything related to Fate Stay/Night
Kizumonogatari
Rozen Maiden
Toaru-series
Flip flappers (this one made me more depressed than I was but it's really good)
Pretty much any 00s anime does it for me. I like those feelings of nostalgia late at night, and the old art style makes it feel like time is broken.

Haven't watched these yet myself, but I'd watch them /late/ at night:
Madoka Magica
Black Rock Shooter
Serial Experiments Lain
Akira

I'm watching Yuru Camp while doing some cardio. Its a short anime about outdoor survival... on easy mode.

What would /late/ be without talking about your dreams? Had a strange one this morning where I was stuck in a gothic cathedral that was actually a mall inside. There was a hidden space underground with comfy chairs and vidya. I can't really remember much else directly though.

obligatory John 2:15-17 post
I was wearing a thick winter coat, a gas mask, and driving a weird machine that looked like an oversized landmower but instead of cutting grass it kept spraying some kind of chemical into the air that seemed to kill something dangerous in the air. Something like an invisible creature kept dying whenever it breathed the gas. The sun didnt move from its spot in the sky. I woke up sweating bullets.

... WWI is getting weirder and weirder in my head.
(238.56 KB 400x320 665.gif)
>>665
that's one freaky dream, are they uncomfortable to experience?
>>222
that must've been very comforting to experience, but very distressful when you woke up.

I don't get dreams often but when I was getting sober I'd have these very realistic dreams of getting high/drunk. I'd wake up that morning on the verge of tears because they were so real and I had thought I lost my sobriety date. Fuckin' trippy.
I dreamed I was commuting to work, but the train was completely empty. Minutes turned into hours as I zipped through the tunnel, and then I had to see what the hell was going on. Standing up, I tried to walk away through the endless corridors. Each one was slightly different - a bag here, a poster there, the handlebars were different - I kept walking 'forwards' for hours.
(1.96 MB 3276x2184 D34MeUMUcAAJfWN.jpeg)
does anyone have any good lucid dreaming info links?
I find myself often stopping in dreams and saying "this isnt right this is a dream" but then I either half wake up or cannot fully control the lucid state and it becomes surreal and falls apart to another dream

Earlier I've tried to sleep a bit earlier since I only went to sleep at 5-6am woke up around 3-4pm the past days and wanted to do something about it, but that didn't work so instead of doing my quarantine homework I've just been browsing around, looking what comfy boards I could find to fill the time when the ones I sometimes browse are too slow or have too few threads I'm interested in. I've just stumbled across this one and while I haven't been looking around much it appears to be one of the chillest I've yet found, so I'll visit more often. I don't think you'll need to worry, as slow doesn't mean dead and slow often means the conversations you get aren't just people spurting shit at each other to get in before the thread dies and are actually meaningful in a way.
Concerning what I'm gonna do, I've gotten around to reading again yesterday, which I've been meaning to for awhile and I'm happy about as the new input gives me stuff to think about and puts me in a nice headspace, even when taking a break from the book. The happy thoughts and imagining, still with some doubts, how I'd want to live, trying to find myself a bit more which depression has made so hard for so long and oftentimes still does. Since its getting bright outside again and my concentration is way too low for math to even start math I think I'll keep on reading soon.

>>692
Tumblr is by far not dead! I've been using it for the most part of my being on the internet and it's dear to my heart. While I've been taking a break after the purge, where I often thought it to be dead too, I've been frequenting it again for a while now and there are so many niche aesthetics for which it is the ideal place. Many of the blogs have moved or are just gone, but look around and you'll find it to be alive and well. (worse than before the purge, but the hellsite I love)

>>702
Lainchan is quite comfy and nice to browse around, there is a /lit/ board where some share threads exist, the current one still being from 2018 but with the newest addition from yesterday. It's worth stopping by, sadly lainzine 5 is still not getting published

>>694
i switched from smoking to vaping a while back, but i tend to pick up a pack when i'm stressed; if i'm having a tough day at work, if i'm thinking about where i'm heading in life.

I love cha, I like long cut. Nothing's quite like putting a fat lip of dip in real late at night.
>>710
never tried long cut actually, i've only ever been a 'pouch pussy' as it's called. just don't particularly like the idea of having to spit constantly. i'm sure i'll try it at some point though.
>>715
Definitely try it, the action of packing in a fat lip of dip is so much more satisfying than a pouch. Especially with a cigarette

Why do you stay up late?

personally I find myself to be a lot more relaxed and creative at night. There’s no stress, you do what you want to do and no one else is awake to tell you otherwise, compared to during the day when there’s always things that have to be done, whether it be work or chores, a time when people expect things from you.

It’s a feeling that I can't really replicate during the day. drawing or reading in the dark while it rains outside with a cup of tea in hand is very comfy, a time when you can truly unwind.

(26.42 KB 600x463 triphasic.png)
Because I like it. Like other anons have said, the solitude, silence, and even just the drop in temperatures is exhilarating. It used to be believed that the full moon and night air made you crazy, and I fully believe that. Something changes when you take a deep breath of cool air and look out at the landscape, any landscape, as it's reduced to silhouettes in the silver light. I have responsibilities during the day that unfortunately make it difficult for me to spend as much time in that other world as I would like, but I still make it work however I can. Pic related. Night=freedom.
>>656
I'm in quarantine because of covid-19 as well, going to definitely changing my sleep schedule for the night and just start posting here, keeping the circulation of content going. I wish you luck with your mission anon, I'm going to try and nap today and then stay up all night with the hopes of my sleep schedule shifting.

>>631

agreed. classic flavor if you want some spiciness
Not really a fan of Ramen anymore.
But when I did make it, I made budget "neopolition" out of it with Sirachi ketchup and hot dogs.
I bassically just boiled the ramen with cut up hotdogs added half way through, strained that bitch out and coated it in siracha ketchup. Some people fry it and it adds a different taste. But fuck that, bam ghetto spaghetto.
I ate this to many times to feel good about myself.
As for normal undesecrated Ramen?
Samyang 2x Spicy Ramen or "Fire Noodles" as Koreaboos call it is good. It's kindve expensive but worth it as you don't have to spend the extra money flavouring it yourself. It's good on it's own, or with an egg. Not many Ramen brands can boast that.

I've been looking through blog archives recently and I've starrted to run thin. I think blogs are peobaly the last vestages of the weird internet. Post some links to comfy/wierd blogs, bonus points if they're still active.
this is something i spend way too much time doing. I can't tell you how many hours of classtime i've wasted on diaryland.com reading randos diary entries from the early, early 2000s.

here's a fav blog that isn't on diaryland: http://roadsideweirdness.blogspot.com/
also http://unusualkentucky.blogspot.com/search/label/cemeteries

both havent updated in quite a while, unfortunately :(

Fray is lovely. It was less of a "blog" and more of short stories with comment sections full of similar stories. Fun to read and from the early 2000s when the internet was fresh and blogs were peaking.
(here's the "Hope" section: http://fray.com/hope/. here's two of my favorite stories: http://fray.com/drugs/scar/01.html & http://fray.com/hope/blackout/)

This guy's blog isn't anything special, but it's fun to read entries from '98-'04. https://kottke.org/98/03/
also he still updates.

somewhat unrelated, but here's a fun, timewaster site, as well: https://asdf.com/index.html

Have you ever met anyone that was a cult member? Live somewhere that has had a cult? What makes people join cults in your opinion? If you were a cult leader what would you do?

Yes, I'm in a cult, The Cult of Moth. Our cult is a nocturnal cyber cult, that originated as a shitpost, but then became an authentic spiritual philosophy as anons contributed their esoteric beliefs in growing dedication.

The Cult of Moth is a dualistic philosophy and MOTH simultaneously stands for (Making Our way Towards Heaven) and (Making Our way Towards Hell). This is to denote we have no final destination and are instead on a never ending flight through exploration and transformation. If you would like to learn more, our Shrine is headquartered here: https://xchan.wtf/rel/res/64.html

The Cult of Moth is for those seeking metamorphosis. We transcend traditional limits and value personal growth and autonomy.
don't think i've met one,
at the very most, some were from some off-shoot sects of the mainstream religions found at where i'm from (Christianity, Buddhism, Daoism, and Hinduism).

So lynxchan doesn't have oekaki support. But that's fine, we can use this!

PS: Post old oekaki here too if you have 'em.

We are going to do some track cleanup, add some more tracks, convert flacs etc. Should see new stuff over the next few days.

Still looking for music suggestions. Enjoy!

Weed is cheaper than alcohol per hour high at retail prices, but what if I brewed my own alcohol?
I've brewed before, but regrettably I didn't measure the abv of my kilju so I can't calculate $/ml ethanol. Anyone got numbers to share?
How do y'all prefer to get away from indifference, and at what price?
Does anime really work as escapism? I just end up being unable to pay attention.
death seems the easiest tbh

I probably won't respond to anyone, sorry, I just want to know how y'all cope. I'm drunk and stupid rn. Feel free to ban my retarded ass this is a vpn though, so temp ban plz to avoid fucking over others.
>>575
lol how drunk r you.

Existence wants me dead, so I tell it to go fuck itself. Thats one way to cope.

Pretty drunk.
I take solace in the freedom of not giving a shit.
I'll probably $CRIME-suicide myself sometime, but not today. Today I have cider and crisps!

Existence can go fuck itself, the fuck is this shit? Why this mathematical structure and not another? Tegmark makes more sense by the pint.

I'm posting this in the afternoon, and I'm not going to add any thing of any value, but wth, I was too drunk to respond last night.

This thread is hilarious.

BTW, I work where accident = drug test, so I just either get dizzy or get my heart rate up and do the nos balloon.

I know the feeling, anon. For me, I'd love to join a crew on a deep space exploration mission. I know in reality, there probably wouldn't be anywhere near as many aliens as in Star Trek, let alone cute ones, but we can always dream.
