Welcome home. Quilt 08/13/2019 (Tue) 02:35:16 No. 1 [Reply] [Last]
It has been almost 5 years now. It feels weird to me that so much time has passed, but here we are.

An independent home for /late/ has been kicked around for years now, but it is only today that it became a reality. We owe it to Nax for much of making it happen, and Deadly, for being Deadly and funding the server.

Enjoy, sleepy anons

As a heads up, there is one week left to submit your board's entry to the Infinity Cup! For your entry to be considered complete, we still need a full roster from your board. Since there's no thread here, I'll link you to /comfy/'s so you guys can link up: https://anon.cafe/comfy/res/830.html
(29.25 KB 702x702 latecomfy_logo.png)
Congratulations to the /late/ half of /late/ & /comfy/, your board is now officially entered into the 6th Infinity Cup, a competition dedicated to crowning the divegrass champion of the webring! The defending champion and host for this Cup is /kind/, who defeated /co/ in the final, via a nailbiting penalty shootout. We will be following a similar tournament structure this Cup, with a Group Stage, guaranteeing your board at least 3 games, and a final Knockout Stage to determine the sole champion. The tentative schedule for the tournament is as follows:

>July 31
Second Deadline, for tactics and Player Cards (explained below)
>August 1st
Draw Stream on the Infinity Cup Cytube, determining which teams your board will face in the Group Stage
>August 7th, 8th, 9th
First, second, and third Day of competition
>August 14th, 15th, 16th
Fourth, fifth, sixth day of competition, completion of Group Stage
>August 22nd
First day of Knockout Stage
>August 23rd
Final day of Knockout Stage, and the champion is crowned

So what's the deal with this second deadline? This is for the strategy your team will run during the games, and it's the alternative to live managing. It's a simple text document that the rigger follows during the game that outlines offensive and defensive tactics, as well as substitutes. As for Player Cards, these are the special abilities your players will carry into the game.

You don't need to do any of that. The host just needs to set the server config setting to offline and install a mod that password protects users so pirates can't steal names and cause issues.
But what about my skin>>870

Skins work good with the server. No worries.

Ey Nax, any news on the server update? I've been waiting.

Sadly it'll probably close to ghost in the shell where all it's gonna be used for is political maneuvering, and normal people will still be in their slums living their lives. I'm sure doing so would probably be a very noisy endeavour, seeing how you can't go many places now during the daytime without it being very noisy and tiring.

What is your favorite pizza?
9 posts and 2 images omitted.
pepperoni. or bacon and broccoli
(2.70 MB 1920x1080 kawabunga.mp4)
Ground beef, mushrooms, olives, and pepperoni.

I got some cheap frozen ones from the grocery store. Just pepperoni, cheese, and a little sauce. I have in mind some ideas since obviously only an animal would eat these things as-is, though none are particularly interesting.

Pork cutlets. Maybe kind of a waste since pepperoni is already pork. But then again, so are sausages and bacon and they go well enough together.

Various chilis. Jalapenos, maybe.

I've had kale recommended. I feel much skepticism.

Garlic, onions, various cheeses.

Just slather that fucker in sriracha.

>>252
Totally tubular, dude.
any will do though. not a picky eater, plus when I was young, pizza was like a luxury food, so only for special occasions do my family order it.
>>21
As far as styles of pizza go, I like all of them except for the extremely thin and floppy New York one. Roman and Neapolitan Pizzas are probably the best.

As far as toppings are concerned, Pizza tastes just great plain with basil and some other herbs. As far as generic toppings go, I like the combination of bell peppers, onion, basil, tomatoes, and bacon or chicken.
Pepperoni is my least favorite. It's just a shitty salami knockoff.

>>267
Anchovies can be good, but most pizza places bake pizza with anchovies on all the way through. That ends up with a salty strips of crispy fish on the pizza. Instead they should either toss anchovies on towards the end of baking process or right after taking pizza out of the oven. That way fish would be still incorporated into cheese without drying too much.
Marco's has been pretty consistently good.

If you download an older version of flash or photoshop you can make gondolas fairly easy as well. I'd stay away from most videos editors though, too much work and complexity would be put in for something that can be done in 2 hours in a simpler program.

25 pounds of sugar will run you around $25. Yeast and yeast accessories are also fairly cheap. Water is cheap. Storage can get a bit pricey depending on what you go for, but a 5 gallon water jug only costs around $10, and has the added bonus of already including the water.

Champagne yeast has the highest alcohol percentage but doesn't taste fantastic at 20%. Thus, 25 pounds of sugar will yield what, 5 pounds of ethanol? That is about 0.759 gallons of pure ethanol for an input cost of about $30 per batch plus around $20 in a single supply cost.

And of course, this isn't factoring in distillation which I don't think is entirely necessary as long as you can boil it on a stove top to get rid of the methanol. In reality I don't think you need that as long as you add some sugar or flavoring after, and that way you end up with some nice 15-20% beer or wine flavored however you want for pretty cheap. Somewhere under 5 gallons of it.

The only problem is the time investment. You'd have to have 2 containers, one to drink from and store your shit and one to ferment the next batch, but overall it is cheaper just to make.

I want an anime that has this calm mystical atmosphere. This scene in Cuunibyo represents it really well, I always get the desire to re-watch the anime when I remember this. It's hard to pinpoint what exactly I like about it, the rest of the anime has a lot of similar feeling. Like it's magical but also real, you want to know more but it's hard to grasp.
Could have sworn I replied to this thread. It was Evangelion. At the same time I was watching the usual 90s shounen stuff. Pokemon, Beyblade, Card Captor Sakura.
I am in the process of gaslighting myself to believe that Lain was the first anime I ever watched.

Prachett is pretty fun.
I've had time for nothing but programming books lately, but since y'all are naming Russians I'll throw in Andreyev. I was staggered by his Satan's Diary for its literary merit, though that was around five years ago now and I can't remember the details or surmise what I would think about it now.
Want to get into philosophy and was hoping you guys had some recommendations.
>>1077
Epictetus' Enchiridion or Aurelius' Meditations are the best places to start.

Beyond that, without knowing what exactly you mean by "get into" it's hard to say. For books by particular philosophers, I'd say Nietzsche and Alan Watts are the most worthwhile and entertaining to read. Otherwise, maybe you want to search Gutenberg for "history of philosophy" to get a picture of what's out there.

What you studying? How is it going? What languages do you speak?
7 posts and 2 images omitted.
i've been halfheartedly studying russian for a few years. motivation dropped off hard after i left uni and didnt have a structured class anymore. i have couple guys online who are up to groupstudy if i can ever arrange it.
finnish would be really cool, plus i could then access ylilauta, but there are damn near no resources out there.
lately i've had an interest in sign language, i think it would be fun. i don't know any deaf or mute people so i would have to practice on video online, but i'm sure there's groups for that.
Anyone here have any resources on learning Russian? I'm definitely interested in self-studying.
English is not my native language and tbh, imageboards have been immensely helpful with that.
Apart from that I speak German (native) and some pretty good French as well fairly good Turkish. Tried to learn Russian many times but failed at every attempt. Also took Chinese classes to two years but I totally failed even at basic conversation so I quit.
Currently I'm trying to improve my French.
>>907
Italy, Japan, and France are really the countries outside of the English speaking world that produce or have produced media in any quantity worth consuming, as far as I'm aware.
Those are on my list, but I have to learn Spanish first, for college.
I'd also like to learn Chinese, because I love the way it sounds, and I'd love to visit Hong Kong or Taiwan (which ever one is still around by the time I can).
I'm taking on Japanese lately. I started with it ~20 years ago because I wanted a challenge, but it turns out to be a fairly boring challenge once you get past the grammar and nuances of Japanese culture. A few thousand kanji, which can be composed into several thousand words. It's quite a mountain when there aren't any cognates to ease the load.

There's really nothing for it but to attack aggressively, and so my advice (which I've used to good effect with romance languages) is twofold:

1. Collect vocabulary through practical experience. Whether that's watching GCCX, reading newspapers, or vidya doesn't matter. I found my retention was better when I could group words chronologically and contextually.

2. Memorize the collected vocabulary via flashcards.

Ideally you'd have a system where you can do instant lookups while reading, like with rikaichan or whatever, and each term you look up is automatically inserted into the practice deck. Spend 45 minutes reading and 45 minutes grinding each day, and progress will be had.

so.. anyone else feel more alive every December, than other months?

I particularly like December. Regrettably, there's no Winter season from where I'm at, so usually I would binge on those cliche Christmas movies and online streaming christmas specials.
I guess my love for anything December, Winter, and Christmas stems from all the Christmas media I've encountered from young. Also, it was also during that month where everyone will be at home most of the time. And of course, get to stay up /late/

Given the past two months of 'soft' lockdown, whenever I go to the nearest 7-11 and back during the late hours, the atmosphere kinda like the quiet and still December/Winter nights... sans the cold temperture and snow.

How was it for you, last December?
Do you look forward to, or have anything planned for this year end?
(886.46 KB 1280x768 field.png)
Pic related is basically where I live, somewhere in Canada.

I prefer the summer, maybe because it's so fleeting. I like being able to sit with the window open or go for a walk in shorts and a t-shirt in the middle of the night, and we only get couple months of this. Then it's the long dark and the deepfreeze again until May. Days in December are about eight hours long, and you can easily go to work in the dark and go back home in the dark, which becomes like cabin fever without even the benefit of seclusion. Snow blindness and glare from the sun coursing across the horizon is annoying and dangerous. At sunset, runoff from the snow mounds turns the sidewalks into sheets of ice. It's hard to mitigate the hazard of ice completely.

On the other hand, there's something satisfying about being fully tanked up: overcoat, hood, thick pants, scarf, gloves, and boots. It's like in a game when your armor class is so high you can just stand there and let the enemies hit you. Some nights it'll be a couple degrees below the freezing point, and the wind is calm, and it's snowing gently in big clumps that scatter the streetlight into a pervading, golden ambience. On a long outing I might notice that the wind has died down and pull my hood back because I'm actually too hot, and the air is crisp and refreshing. Some things are nice to look at, like a frozen lake. Miles of pure, perfectly level, untrammeled snow. Also, running through a field when there's a foot of snow on the ground is the best cardio there is.

As for me, I hold a cold - grim resolve. Man is a creature full of suffering, and yet he has endured for well over ten thousand years of strife. Perhaps the biblical tales of destruction are memories of actual events - and yet, even against the will of gods old and new, we survived.

It is that resolve that fills me now in this new age of darkness. This too shall pass.
>>997

can't remember which documentary I've watched - the presentor presents one view that the galaxy we're in (and ultimately, earth and all the life that have ever walked on this planet) is the result of a random reactions and interactions of the elements spew out immediately after the Big Bang. Had the reaction and interactions varied slightly, our galaxy, solar system and earth would not exist.

Which I think, it is then logical that we shouldn't view everything under the sun so serious at all.
Day in day out, we're told to work hard, earn cash, pay tax, buy stuffs and be satisfied.

Is life really mean to be like that though?

You could even take it from the opposite view: that we shouldn't give ourselves over to empty materialism, because we've been endowed with free will by some deity who created the universe as clockwork, but who didn't mean for us to be automatons much less wagies and paypigs.

Drew, now 62 years old, was in his kitchen showing off a 7 foot tall, arch-shaped device he described as both a nuclear reactor, and a cryptocurrency vault that was to reside at the bottom of the sea remotely powering his Internet of Things. He was hodling Lino.

The scene smash-cuts to five minutes after everyone leaves, and he's laying on the kitchen table with his lower half mostly out of the shot, but we can see the device straddling his pelvis and being bounced spasmodically by stagehands. Because of course it was also a nuclear fleshlight. The camera turns to Drew's face for a moment so we can soak in how fat, depressed, used-up and saggy he's become. A moment later we see the device is replaced by a cloris leachman: Drew's mother in law, who gives him a pep-talk. Drew, it turns out, married Christa Miller's character, who later died. It was absurd and disgusting with a few comedy beats, but there was no laugh track. Just Cloris Leachman straddling Drew Carey.
I dreamed about snow last night. The heat's starting to get to me. I don't know how anyone can enjoy summer.

Confession Anonymous 11/03/2019 (Sun) 06:30:12 No. 224 [Reply] [Last]
Finally broke down at 4am and told my father about the depression, the suicidal thoughts, and all the other shit that I've kept to myself for the past year. He had no idea about any of it, most people didn't. Even those who knew about parts of it never knew the fill picture.
It felt really good, lads.
The /late/ hours are the best for sorrow and depression, but also for confession and empathy.

Post what is on your mind. Speak freely.

I let a fat retard bully me yesterday about wanting to eat his asshole, I mildly regret it.
I'm stuck between wanting to be a cop, or just saying fuck it and trying to get a military contract to Afghanistan or some other god forsaken shithole. Because doing stupid shit like this is the only thing that makes my life feel like it has any purpose, started taking unemployment and I don't like it, makes me feel dirty.
>>1056
Wanting to be a cop? Presumably not in america, unless you're also the anon who wants to eat out fat retard assholes since at the rate things are going that's going to be the job description real soon.

You might have better luck finding meaning within your own community than in corrupt institutions. Like >>1043 said, helping your fellow man will, at the least, help you feel less atomized.
I want to leave. I want to pack up my belongings into a duffel bag, take a bus to a place I've never been to, find a new place to stay and work, and just start fresh.

New name, new friends, new job, new personality, new life, new place.

I could do it, too. I have just enough saved up to get shitty apartment lease and a bit for day to day expenses while I get set up. I've got nothing going on here, nothing to lose.

The question is, why don't I?
Why haven't I already?
>>1057
I've pretty applied to every city job in my city and the one next over but no call backs, even applied to some grocery stores just to get me some pocket money for when I was planning to start school next year and still nothing. So I'm just going to go back and do what i know, since I already did law enforcement in the military.
>>1063
I've been thinking of doing the same actually, just grabbing a duffel bag and start walking somewhere, As for why you haven't its probably the same reason I haven't, too scared, too many factors at play, can you really find another job in a new city or state. Shits fucked and I just want to go back to work.

Not really a fan of Ramen anymore.
But when I did make it, I made budget "neopolition" out of it with Sirachi ketchup and hot dogs.
I bassically just boiled the ramen with cut up hotdogs added half way through, strained that bitch out and coated it in siracha ketchup. Some people fry it and it adds a different taste. But fuck that, bam ghetto spaghetto.
I ate this to many times to feel good about myself.
As for normal undesecrated Ramen?
Samyang 2x Spicy Ramen or "Fire Noodles" as Koreaboos call it is good. It's kindve expensive but worth it as you don't have to spend the extra money flavouring it yourself. It's good on it's own, or with an egg. Not many Ramen brands can boast that.
Haven't had ramen in a while! Years ago I used to get a lot of different ones when my mom when to a Chinese store. They had a lot of variety but most of them were Nissin. I liked the 'meaty' ones (chicken, pork and beef).
For the past 3 years or so I've been getting into spicy food and when I hang out with a friend at his place we both get spicy ones. Can't remember which brand is it.
Having some curry ramen with beef chunks right now while sitting in my yard. Its gotten comfortably warm out and watching the stars feels good.
Maruchan stopped exporting to brazil a few months ago
Im pissed.
They were 4x as pricey, but Maruchan noddles are the best and i havent had it in so long
Oh well. At least theres some new wacky flavours on the market. Fuckin grilled cheese noodles, man, wtf
I like having noodles with a cup of tea. Warm liquids hydrate you better, so even here in the tropics its good
Rice noodles are very tasty too, good with fish
Instant noodles are okay. I'd much rather eat ravioli as a lady food. Or canned chilli. I get the vibe, though, if it's late at night and there's nothing else, noodles are okay.

Just had my first of the year, and it was amazing.

I haven't been out in a month owing to a broken limb, and haven't been out late in half a year owing to our interminable northern winters, so everything about the experience was the perfect combination of fresh and familiar. The feeling of gravel shifting under my weight. Shadows dancing in my peripheral vision, in a field lit by the half moon. The smell of sulfur hits my nose and I notice a woman sitting in the bed of a parked pickup truck across the street idly smoking a cigarette, like a background animation. The buzzing of utility boxes and the uneven clomping of my boots. Things are very quiet without all the cars. I suspect the decrease in pollution is why the stars were so clear, as well.

It's nice not to be a cripple, or a brain in a jar anymore.

How have yours been, anon? Are you taking advantage of the empty streets and our new social distancing regime? And what's your nightwalk playlist?

Waiting on the whole corona thing to end just to /latewalk/

its red tide right now and i feel like i'm missing out
I've gone a dozen times or so now, at different hours. Each has been more or less fun, though nothing can beat the absolute silence of 0200. One walk was just before dawn as I wanted to go shopping just as things were opening. I ran 5 miles through the woods, getting spooked by all the deer I was spooking. Having done so little cardio over the lockdown months I felt a little sick, like my heart wasn't right somehow. Probably because I was also lifting heavier in the interim, leaving me with bigger wheels, but a smaller engine to power them. I made it to town anyhow, which I'm told is supposed to be much more populated at this hour.

Last night I was walking home and saw a deer crossing the road, in the middle of the 'burbs. It crossed at the crosswalk like it knew. I followed it down the sidewalk half a block, because it was going my way anyway, and I couldn't help getting the impression that it makes this journey every night, like anybody. It stopped a couple times to listen, but not to me. It knew I was there, just a few feet away, and didn't mind. It turned into a little park where we parted ways.

Still feeling intense gratitude that I got to experience all this.

It's great. Babby's first nightwalk is just a trip to the convenience store. Depending on the wildlife in your area, your disposition might need to be less "nature hike" and more "sneaking mission."
>>835
Waiting for corona to end? But anon, this is the best possible time! The streets are empty with everyone cowering indoors.
Going for a walk late at night for the first time in months. Wish me luck.
>>983
Hope it went well, my dude.

I myself have been stuck in a diurnal cycle lately. Got fucking scorched by the Yellow Face, too.

We hates it.
i live in the middle of nowhere, so i can't really do a nightwalk without it being spooky as fuck. used to do them when i was at uni a few years ago. i do kind of miss it, but i definitely don't miss living in a city.
